FAQ

Mountainside Chiropractic FAQ

  • What is a Chiropractor?

Chiropractors specializes in treating neuromuscular disorders and how they impact our physical and mental health. Chiropractors, like Dr. Weiland, believe that the human body has the capacity to heal itself with the help of chiropractic adjustments and spinal decompression. Despite many misconceptions, chiropractors work well with your medical team, and are trained in techniques to help compliment the treatment plans that have been recommended by your medical team.

  • Who do we seek to serve?

Most patients find themselves calling the office to schedule a new patient appointment because they are in pain. They bent over to put their socks on and suddenly there is a sharp electric pain in their low back. Now, they can no longer stand up straight. They were an athlete when they were younger, and they just want to be able to move like they used to.

Many patients also establish themselves with Mountainside Chiropractic because they would like to maintain a certain level of wellness or maintenance care. At Mountainside Chiropractic, we are dedicated to not only getting you out of pain, but to make sure that we keep you out of pain and moving well with routine wellness care.

  • Why Mountainside Chiropractic?

Mountainside Chiropractic is the leading expert in managing disc herniations, low back pain, spinal pain, headaches/migraines, fibromyalgia, and many other conditions. Disc herniations can be challenging to manage and they require a special type of treatment. Cox Flexion/Distraction is the gold-standard when managing those difficult cases. Dr. Katrina Weiland is the only Cox Flexion/Distraction certified chiropractor in Harrisonburg or the surrounding areas.

  • Is chiropractic safe?

Yes! When performed by trained chiropractors, spinal manipulation is safe. Institutions such as the Mayo Clinic, Harvard and the National Institutes of Health recognize and promote the benefits of chiropractic care.

  • What conditions does chiropractic care help with?

Chiropractic care works with many health conditions. Traditionally this has included neck, back, leg, arm pain and headaches. Today, however, it covers much more. See our page on the Cox Flexion Distraction Technique to learn about the many different health conditions we work with every day.

  • Why do Chiropractors recommend multiple visits?

Your body has adapted to a maladaptive way of functioning. Think of it like a bad habit. The chiropractor’s job is to train the body to return to an optimal way of functioning. It takes time for the body to accept the new habit which is why multiple sessions are recommended.

  • What is it like to work with Mountainside Chiropractic?

First of all, we listen carefully to you. Then we do new patient consultation, exam, X-rays (if needed), and prepare a customized treatment plan. With each visit, we’ll review your progress and your challenges. I will adjust your treatment plan to reflect those changes. Our goal is to help you feel better, move better, and live better. We want to get you back to doing the activities you love as quickly as possible!

  • How do I know if chiropractic care is right for me?

That is what we are here for at Mountainside Chiropractic. After performing an in-depth consultation, examination, X-rays (if needed), and consulting your medical team or providers if needed, we will let you know. This helps us work together so we can provide you the most specialized and high-quality care. However, if you are experiencing stiffness/tightness, decreased range of motion, pain, and unable to complete some of your daily activities, chances are good that you need care.

  • How many visits is it going to take before I feel better?

Every patient is different. Some patients will find that they have immediate relief. Others, it may take a few weeks or months of routine care. Your recovery time is dependent on several factors to include, the severity of your condition, how long you have had this condition, and what level of improvement you want. Some want us to help them get their pain manageable, while other want their pain gone completely. When creating your customized treatment plan, we will review what goals you would like set so we can tailor your care.

  • I've had back surgery, is chiropractic safe for me?

Generally speaking, yes. Every patient’s situation is different and unique. After the doctor completes their careful review of your consultation, examination, imaging reports, and surgical reports, they will let you know if you are a good candidate for chiropractic care. This will also provide the doctor the opportunity to discuss with you how they are going to tailor your care to manage your spine without disrupting where you had surgery.

  • What happens if chiropractic doesn't work?

It is rare, but on occasion there are patients that do not improve with routine chiropractic care. When this happens, the chiropractic team at Mountainside Chiropractic will discuss with the patient their options. Many times, we will refer to another practitioner or physician for alternative therapies.
